About Us

Doha, Qatar
Scorpions, 50-degree temperatures and sandstorms. But it's not all fun in the Middle East. Having been here 16 months we (or rather me, Rich) decided to keep a log of the hardships we have to endure.

Incey wincey aaaaargh!

The spider in the top picture was photographed by Laura on our balcony yesterday. It had built a web under the rim of a bucket. The picture below is from the internet and shows a male spider of the Latrodectus genus - otherwise known as the black widows.

They appear pretty similar to me.

Great. Just great.

Three men in a boat

Beer, pies, a dodgy outboard motor and 45 degrees in the shade. What could possibly go wrong?

It was like Lord of the Flies before we made it back.

Ramadan Nights

Where's my baseball bat?

Found in the bathroom. What in the name of all that is holy is this?

Noo Yoik, Noo Yoik

Sadly I had to leave the glitz and bustle of Doha for an all-expenses paid business trip to New York.
Even sadder was the fact I couldn't take my wife and son with me to experience the joy of business class travel and boutique hotels.

Never realised Laura could turn such a virulent shade of green!

K-K-K-Kathmandu

Bit late in updating but had a trip to Kathmandu in January. Both Alex and I were ecstatic to be blessed by the local sadhu while Laura gleefully snapped away.

Nepal is also the only country on Earth where I would have to get a taxi driver to lend me $50 to give to passport control for the visas.
